This has unfortunately become all too common. Rwandan nationals are implicated in several cases of assassinations and femicides, killing their partners or spouses, both in Rwanda and abroad. Last night, a 38-year-old Rwandan woman whose name is Claudine was stabbed to death by her husband, also a 39-year-old Rwandan,whos name is Claude, in Saint-Priest, near Lyon. The man was taken into custody on Monday.

A 38-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Saint-Priest (Rhône) early Sunday evening, October 26, the Lyon prosecutor’s office told Agence Radio France, confirming a report from BFM Lyon. Her 39-year-old partner was arrested. The prosecutor’s office stated that their children “did not witness the incident.”

Here’s how it happened!
It was yesterday, Sunday evening, October 26, 2025. The incident occurred in the family apartment, located on Judith-Gautier Street in the Bel Air neighborhood. The couple has three children aged 6, 9, and 12. The alarm was raised around 9 p.m. The children were asleep in their bedroom. The husband killed his wife with a knife. When the police arrived, the victim was found lying on the ground with a fatal wound to the neck.

📰 Another recent incident: Axel Rudakubana, the young man of Rwandan origin who killed three children with a knife in the United Kingdom, was sentenced to life imprisonment, with no possibility of reduction for 52 years.

The husband quickly took refuge with a relative.
The victim’s husband, a 38-year-old man, left the scene after the tragedy to go to a relative’s house in Meyzieu, where he was arrested that evening. He was later arrested at the home of this close friend, who had informed the police.

My personal opinion: “Never again.”
Once again, violence has struck where love should have protected. A 38-year-old woman lost her life, killed by the man she shared a roof with. Three children are now motherless. A community in shock. Broken hearts, and a question that continues to haunt us: how long, oh Rwandans, Rwandans?
This is not a news item. It is a human tragedy, a cry of distress that reminds us that silence kills as much as blows. Jealousy, anger, and possession are not love. Love does not kill. Love protects. Love listens. Love respects.
Every day, women fall under the blows of those who claimed to love them. Every day, children grow up in fear. We can no longer look away. Speaking out, preventing, supporting, protecting—it’s a collective responsibility.
My deepest thoughts go out to the victim, to her children, to all those suffering in the shadows.
And may justice be done, so that life may regain its rights where death has sought to triumph.
