The couple had two young children.

Official Statement (translated)
Dear members and friends,
The DRB Leuven Ngari Diaspora, as well as the wider Rwandan community, deeply regret to announce the tragic death of our compatriot and member, Mrs. Umuhire Jeanne d’Arc, who was killed by her husband.
The couple lived in Tienen, and the body of the deceased is currently at the Tienen morgue.
We are still awaiting further details from the police, which will be shared once available.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to Jeanne d’Arc’s family.
Arrangements for the wake and other memorial events will be announced soon.
As the Leuven Ngari Diaspora and the Rwandan community in Belgium, we express our deepest sympathy and support to the bereaved family.— Egide Karuranga, Vice President, DRB Leuven Ngari

What Happened?
According to available information, this was Celestin’s second marriage. His first marriage had ended in divorce. He later married Jeanne d’Arc during the Covid-19 pandemic (in 2021), and the couple had two children together.
📰 Related story: In France, a child kills his father with a knife — here’s why.
On the day of the tragedy, Jeanne d’Arc had gone out with friends early in the morning and returned very late.During her absence, Celestin, who was alone with the children — something he apparently wasn’t used to — became increasingly frustrated. He called her several times, but she didn’t answer and reportedly ignored his calls. Angry, he phoned his wife’s aunt in Rwanda, who tried to calm him down and advised him to be patient, assuring him that Jeanne d’Arc would eventually come home.
📰 Another similar case: Axel Rudakubana, a young man of Rwandan origin who killed three small children in the UK, was sentenced to life imprisonment, with no possibility of parole before 52 years.
Late that night, Jeanne d’Arc finally returned home. Her aunt attempted to call again, but Celestin refused to let her speak. He then strangled his wife to death, before lying down next to her lifeless body. The next morning, he washed the children, took them to the daycare, and told one of the caretakers:“Please take care of my children.” At the time, the woman didn’t understand what he meant.
Celestin then went back home briefly before turning himself in at the Tienen police station.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the victim, and also to that of the man who committed the act.
Open Question: Cases of domestic violence and spousal murder have been increasing within the Rwandan community, even beyond the country’s borders. What, in your opinion, is driving this disturbing trend?

This is so bad, outrageous and infuriating at the same time. How on earth a sane person decides to take the life of another person?
I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends & the entire Rwandan community in Belgium. In my opinion, this man had anger management problem and it is a serious issue within the Rwandan community particularly. The culture of killing in domestic violence is a pandemic sadly linked to our country’s leadership style that promotes violence for the last 3 decades.
