Liliane Mukabatesi, a Rwandan woman living in Belgium,is being prosecuted for embezzling 1.8 million euros from elderly men from Awans, Liège, Seraing and Saint-Nicolas who “fell in love with her”!
On October 1, 2017, an elderly Luxembourger, Gilbert Brambach, founded a chic cosmetics store in Rwanda for Liliane Mukabatesi called “LiLi Kosmetik” in the MIC building in Kigali City. Speaking to IGIHE newspaper at the time, Mukabatesi said she had left Rwanda to study in Belgium. She says that before leaving, her own father told her: “My daughter, go abroad, learn everything, and bring home what you learn.”
Liliane “La Belle” is being prosecuted for having swindled some 1.8 million euros from four old men who fell in love with her!
On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, we read in Belgian newspapers that Liliane was described as a “gold digger” who allegedly “amassed, from four septuagenarians men, more than 1.8 million euros.” At the Liège Criminal Court, these four elderly men were reunited with their “ex-girlfriend,” Liliane, whom they are suing.
They were all there Tuesday morning in court, like a club of exes, sharing the same lawyer, Mr. Philippe Godin, and the same resentment. All of them, in the space of about 10 years, fell in love with Liliane, a Waremmienne born in 1979 in Rwanda, who entered their lives, taking up more and more space, and asking them for more and more money.
Evoking sometimes a mother who needed a pacemaker, sometimes a business she was setting up in Rwanda where she comes from, or a complicated divorce, real estate investments to be conceded, she amassed a very tidy sum. But she does not budge: they were gifts, they loved her and she did nothing wrong. They left all their money there.

(1) She divorced her husband and went to live with an old man without children so she could inherit his beautiful house
The first complainant, a man living in Saint-Nicolasà Liège, born in 1949, met her when she lived in that town with the father of her children. She maintains that it was never a question of love, telling him that he saw her as his sweetheart. She had ended up, after divorcing her husband, by living with the complainant, without living in the house he owned. Then, as he had no heir, she had proposed that he give her this house.
“She arrived unexpectedly on a Monday morning in 2020. I was completely shaken up. She told me we were going to her notary’s office in Huy,” he explained. “Everything happened very quickly. They had me sign a deed of gift, and she took the house!”
She didn’t just get that from the old man, who, between 2012 and 2021, paid out a total of €287,947 (in addition to the house for Liliane’s sake).
A search of her home led to the recovery of an acknowledgment of debt she had signed for €218,000. This aspect of Liliane’s case has two problems: with the acknowledgment of debt, it’s more of a civil matter, and furthermore, the court is not seized of a claim for abuse of weakness, which could likely be considered in the donation case.

The second complainant, also from Awans, born in 1949, thought it was a beautiful story when he met her in 2012, after having crossed paths with her at the “Alhambra” dance hall. He had had a successful career, and he had showered her with gifts or money that she requested for various reasons: Mercedes, Rolex, trips to resolve family problems in Rwanda, work on a house… In total, he allegedly gave her the sum of 880,164 euros saved throughout his life.
(3) Liliane Mukabatesi defrauded me of 603,000 euros
The third old man, cheated, lives between Liège and Luxembourg. He told him that he had fallen in love with the beautiful Liliane who had beautiful eyes and knew how to raise them. This old man had even accompanied Liliane to Rwanda, had launched a beauty salon there in her name, and together they had led a beautiful life as a couple in Rwanda, in Liège as well as in Luxembourg.

The latter is said to have identified other “pigeons (victims)” who, because they have a street presence in Liège, did not dare to join the complaint… For this Liège resident, the bill came to just over €603,000.
The last one comes from Seraing, he is a former construction worker born in 1954 (the youngest of the gang of four). He had met the beautiful Liliane via Meetic (a dating site for prostitutes and other hookups) and he had loved her a lot but he had still realized quite quickly that she had a tendency to dip into his financial reserves. For him the amount is only €36,150
Due to concurrent civil proceedings and classification issues, the judge asked the prosecution to work on the exact amounts on which each charge is based.
The defense is arguing for acquittal because, according to them, a woman who received gifts cannot be convicted “just because she no longer loves.”
I will follow the next developments, and the outcome of this case will be decided by the end of the year.
