Nepotism: « All animals are equal but some are more equal »!

Written by Mwalimu HAKIZIMANA Maurice

When I teach literature to my undergraduate students, in the novel “Animal Farm”, by George Orwell, we focus on this famous saying by the pigs who control “the government”: « All animals are equal but some are more equal »!The statement is a comment on the hypocrisy of governments that proclaim the absolute equality of their citizens but give power and privileges to a small elite.

Last time, in the classroom, some young French adults asked me if I know of a country where nepotism is well practiced in 2025, and I quickly thought of General Yoweli Museveni Kaguta Tibuhaburwa and poor Uganda!

The Museveni family took over the entire country, Uganda. It's their business, a family affair.

Just have a look:

(1) General Yoweli Kaguta Museveni-The President since 1986

(2)Janet Kaguta Museveni – The Minister of Education (Museveni’s wife)

(3) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Museveni- Chief of Uganda’s Defence Force (Museveni’s son)

(4) General Salim Saleh – Powerful Army Officer (Museveni’s brother)

(5)Bright Rwamirama – The Minister For Animal Industry (Museveni’s cousin)

(6) Shedrack Nzeire – Senior Presidential Advisor On Defense (Museveni’s step-brother)

(7) Miriam Karugaba – Administrator At States House (Museveni’s brother-in-law)

(😎 Sabiiti Muzeyi – Powerful Military And Police Officer at the same time (Museveni’s cousin)

(9) James Kateera – Powerful Military Commander (cousin of Museveni’s wife)

(10) Faith Mirembe – Presidential Private Secretary In Education And Social Services (Museveni’s cousin)

(11) Sam Kutesa -Minister Of Foreign Affairs (former) And Powerful Businessman with several corruption cases (Father-in-law of Museveni’s son, Muhoozi)

(12) Allan Matsiko – Powerful Special Forces Command’s Intelligence Director (Husband to Sam Kutesa daughter. Sam Kutesa is the father-in-law of Museveni’s son, Muhoozi)
