Rwanda breaks off relations with Belgium and has given all staff at their embassy in Kigali 48 hours to pack up and leave!
The Government of Rwanda expresses that it has taken this decision, which must be implemented immediately and after careful consideration of all aspects, due to Belgian colonial behavior. As a result of this decision, Rwanda has ordered that Belgian diplomats leave its territory within 48 hours.

The breakdown of this relationship occurred a few hours after President Kagame spoke to the people of Kigali on March 16 and announced that he would take action against Belgium, he said.
“One of the dangers we face is that we were colonized by a small country like Rwanda. Even that country cut Rwanda into pieces to make it equal. I’m talking about Belgium, and I warn you that I will take serious action against it.”
This also follows Rwanda’s decision to end cooperation with Belgium after that country made the political decision to side with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Belgium reacted quickly
Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prévot immediately took X and responded to Rwanda.
He wrote that Belgium is saddened by Rwanda’s decision to sever ties with him and expel its diplomats from Rwanda. This shows the cowardice of Rwandan leaders who, when there is disagreement, fail to explain themselves (that they do not know how to dialogue). He concluded by saying that Belgium will do the same thing: summon the Rwandan chargé d’affaires in Belgium, notify him of the complete cessation of existing relations, and declare all Rwandan diplomats in Belgium persona non grata!
Rwanda has already instructed its employees at the Belgian embassy to leave within 48 hours and is immediately closing the building where the Brussels embassy operated. This world
