According to records compiled by the Aviation Safety Network, 100 planes have disappeared in mid-flight and have not been found since 1948. (see List of Missing Aerial Misses).

(1) A Lockheed L1049 disappeared mid-flight in March 1962

On March 16, 1962, a Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation disappeared in the Western Pacific. On board were 107 men, including 93 American soldiers, sent by the U.S. Army to Saigon, Vietnam.  The preferred hypothesis is that the plane exploded in flight, but this could not be demonstrated due to the lack of examination of the aircraft.

(2) A Boeing 707 missing in the North Pacific in January 1979

A Boeing 707: In January 1979, a cargo flight operated by the Brazilian carrier Varig disappeared in the North Pacific shortly after taking off from Tokyo for Brazil. Six Brazilian members were on board. The plane was never found.

(3) An Angolan Boeing 727 disappeared in May 2003

A Boeing 727, Angola, 2003: This former American Airlines was leased to an Angolan airline before being taken out of service at Luanda airport for non-payment of bills. An American mechanic was the only person known to be on board this plane in May 2003 for a test. Without a transponder, the plane disappeared into the Atlantic and was never found.

(4) Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 Flight MH370 missing since March 8, 2014

On March 8, 2014, a Boeing 777 flying from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China, went missing in the South China Sea. It took off from Kuala Lumpur at 12:41 p.m. and was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6:30 a.m. Beijing local time. But the plane never reached its destination and went in the opposite direction and ended up crashing in the southern Indian Ocean, where it was last detected by satellites. The plane was never found; only a few pieces of debris from the aircraft could be found on the beaches of Reunion Island and Mozambique.

  1. I do like the way you have framed this matter plus it does provide me some fodder for consideration. However, through just what I have personally seen, I simply wish as the actual commentary stack on that people today remain on issue and in no way get started on a tirade associated with some other news of the day. All the same, thank you for this fantastic point and although I can not go along with the idea in totality, I regard the perspective.
