The goal of going to work isn’t just about making money

HAKIZIMANA Maurice

Why do you work? Or why are you looking for a job? Why do we get up very early and come home late every day? Is it just to make money? Only money? If you’re in business, what’s your primary goal? Make money or serve your customers well? As some one once said, “If your only goal is to make money, you will never achieve it”.Yes, if you only work to just earn money, you will never be happy and you will never make that money! Let me explain my point of view.

Those who focus on money only end up losing the money

If you are in business only for money it will eventually show. If you are in business to not only make money but to make a difference in other people’s lives, it will eventually show.

A few weeks ago a businessman contacted some business owner to print for him a receipt book for his business. The first one he printed, the name was completed wrong so he refused to collect it because he had given him the correct information. He hesitantly agreed to print another one and Instead of paying attention this time around, he again made a mistake of making the margins too small. There was no way someone was going to write in the margins. Infact he printed one page and photocopied the rest of the pages which came out dirty.

The work looked so dirty and when he asked him if he was happy with it, all he said was that he couldn’t print again. He asked him whose fault it was and he said it was his but he would lose out if he printed again. He told him he wasn’t happy got his receipt book and gave it to his kids who play it. He wasn’t going to give his customers such receipts. What do you think? Will the man go back to him? Definitely no. Will he refer or recommend anyone there? Definitely no.

Henry Ford once said “A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.”

When you are wrong, make sure you correct your mistake even if it means you are losing out because you made it in the first but if all you care about is money, your customers needs will be overlooked which in turn will chase your customers away.

Michael LeBoeuf said “A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all.”

In the photo, it is clear that the plumber who was doing the works was taught what to think and not how to think

To make matters worse, he is in business only for money to a point where he doesn’t even notice that he is actually losing money. Instead of just moving the stone, he will spend more on material and more time connecting those unnecessary joints he is creating.

Jim Rohn said “Income does not far exceed personal development.” Clearly his money will grow when his mind grows. Sadly this is a reflection of many of us today.

We don’t grow because we have focused on profits more than service. We don’t grow because we only invest in business and our minds. May our minds grow and in turn push our grow businesses to grow.

I myself have been in business, starting with very little but ending with a lot, just because I knew what I was looking for: to serve and satisfy my customers. That’s what made me money.

Greetings

  1. The two examples are not relevant, in my view: The receipt book printer was just confused. He neither focused on profit nor non serving.
If you open a business and not focus on profit, call it a charity instead.

Therefore, serving well leads to profit, not mutually exclusive.

    1. Hello Enan, while respecting your opinion: The gentleman had given details and the one who had accepted the job should work to satisfy his client. No, focusing only on profit leads to no or very bad service.
If you open a business , and if you really want to make a profit, focus on the service, satisfy your customers, and the end will justify your means. I’ve applied these theories and believe me, it perfectly works.

  2. I am very multifaceted, from sweet to a visit today, everything is possible with me! Are you submissive? Then don’t be afraid to give me a call. I’ll take your breath away with my dominant nature. Don’t hesitate for long and give me a call. I look forward to seeing you!
