(1) Génération silencieuse

Le terme génération silencieuse se réfère aux personnes nées entre le milieu des années 1920 et le début/milieu des années 1940 environ. Cette génération est intercalée entre la génération grandiose et celle des Babyboomeurs.Ce sont des personnes qui ont vécu la Grande Dépression et participé à la Seconde Guerre mondiale et/ou à la guerre de Corée (pour les États-Unis surtout), elles auraient travaillé dur tout en n’ayant pas été revendicatives. Ils sont tous ou quasiment tous morts maintenant.

(2) La génération “baby boomers”

La génération “baby boomers”(ou babyboumeurs) est le groupe des personnes nées pendant la période du baby boom, après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Selon la théorie générationnelle de Strauss-Howe, cette génération comprend les personnes nées entre 1944 et 1964 c’est à dire entre l’immédiat après-guerre et 1964. Ils sont toujours presque tous vivants,les plus vieux ont 80 ans et les plus jeunes 60 ans.

(3) La génération X,les Baby Bust

La génération X (ou génération « Baby Bust », en raison du faible taux de natalité) désigne, selon la classification de William Strauss et Neil Howe, le groupe des personnes nées entre 1965 et 1979. L’expression « génération X » a d’abord été utilisée en démographie, puis en sociologie et en marketing. Elle est surtout largement utilisée dans la culture populaire. Le X vient de l’algèbre : la Génération X était considérée comme trop différente, donc Inconnue, à découvrir.Ils ont maintenant entre 45 et 60 ans.

(4) La génération Y, les milléniaux

La génération Y (ou génération baby boomers), les milléniaux (de l’anglais : millennials)  regroupent l’ensemble des personnes nées entre le début 1980 et 1994. L’expression « génération Y » est utilisée, selon certains, pour avoir une suite logique dans l’alphabet après la génération X. Ils sont bien portant,entre 30 et 44 ans maintenant. Ils connaissent les téléphones fixes,et les SMS de la téléphonie mobile.

(5) La génération Z, les Zoomers

La génération Z (ou génération « zoomer ») est la génération des personnes nées entre 1994 et 2015.Elle est définie comme une génération née alors que les communications numériques étaient déjà bien installées dans la société. La popularité et l’usage intensif des outils numériques dans les années 2000 semble avoir eu des conséquences psychologiques importantes pour la génération Z. Alors qu’une plus grande partie de la génération Z, dont l’aîné aura 30 ans cette année, semble se diriger vers ou sont déjà dans la parentalité, certains se tournent vers les médias sociaux pour partager leur stress existentiel face au passage du temps.

(6) La génération A (Alpha)

La génération Alpha est est la génération des personnes nées entre 2015 et 2024. Nommée d’après la première lettre de l’alphabet grec, la génération Alpha est la première à être née entièrement au XXIe siècle. La plupart des membres de la génération Alpha sont les enfants des milléniaux. En 2015, quelque deux millions et demi de personnes naissaient chaque semaine dans le monde ; la génération Alpha devrait atteindre les deux milliards d’ici 2025. 2024 sera la dernière année de la « génération alpha ».

(7) Les génération bêta,la génération Gamma et la génération Delta,sont à venir.

Les bébés qui seront nés entre 2025 et 2039 feront partie de la « génération bêta».Si la nomenclature tient, nous aurons ensuite la génération Gamma (les enfants de la génération Alpha) et la génération Delta, mais nous n’y arriverons pas avant la seconde moitié du 21e siècle !
