Le procureur de la Cour pénale internationale est arrivé dans la nuit de lundi à mardi en RDC, il doit notamment rencontrer le président Tshisekedi et la représentante de l’Onu en RDC, Bintou Keita, ainsi que des victimes du conflit en cours dans l’est du pays. A son arrivée à Kinshasa, le procureur de la CPI Karim Khan a déclaré que les populations de RDC sont “aussi précieuses que celles d’Ukraine, d’Israël ou de Palestine, que les filles et femmes d’Afghanistan”.
Karim Khan se dit “extrêmement inquiet des récents développements” dans l’est du Congo et réclame l’application du droit international humanitaire :
“Un message très clair doit être passé : aucun groupe armé, aucune force armée, aucun allié d’un groupe armé ou d’une force armée n’a de chèque en blanc. Ils doivent respecter le droit international humanitaire”, a-t-il déclaré.

Le bureau du procureur de la CPI a ouvert en 2023 une nouvelle enquête sur des allégations de crimes commis depuis janvier 2022 dans la province du Nord-Kivu (est de la RDC). Les services de M. Khan, lequel s’était déjà rendu dans le pays en mai 2023, ont indiqué début février que la situation actuelle dans l’est de la RDC « entre dans le cadre de l’enquête en cours ».
Les récents combats font craindre une répétition de ce que l’on a appelé la deuxième guerre du Congo (1998-2003), qui a impliqué de nombreux pays africains et entraîné des millions de morts par la violence, les maladies et la famine.
